DATES, PRICES AND TICKETS - Cancelled
2020 Dates – CANCELLED
We are very sorry to announce that we will not be able to run our wonderful Day Out With Thomas events this year and are having to cancel them. The dates were 16 & 17 May, 25 & 26 July and 5 & 6 September 2020.
As you will be aware, the social distancing measures and other restrictions which are in place as announced by the Scottish Government due to the Covid-19 pandemic mean we are unable to safely run this event for you and our volunteers, staff and suppliers.
We are as disappointed as you will be but we did not really have a choice in the circumstances and want to make sure we keep everyone safe. We appreciate your understanding and support and hope that you watch this space for any future event news.
If you booked tickets for these events via www.dayoutwiththomas.co.uk or over the phone with Quaytickets, they will be in touch as soon as is practically possible by email about a refund. Please do not contact the railway as we have no access to their booking systems.
Once again we are really sorry about this. Please remember it won’t be forever and we will welcome you back aboard again as soon as it is safe to do so.
SOS – Please help
For over 10 years, we have welcomed many thousands of happy people to our Day out With Thomas events. These have provided enormous financial support and allowed us to fulfil our charitable purpose to display, and educate the public about, Scotland’s railway heritage. Coronavirus poses the biggest threat to the Scottish Railway Preservation Society, operators of the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, in our 59 year history: with our railway closed, we are facing the prospect of a £240,000 loss this year. If you would like to support us through this difficult time, you can make a donation here. We hope to see you back on our railway next year!

How do we get to you?
We are about 40 minutes drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow. See map here.
We have a large free car park but it does fill up quickly. If our car park is full you can find free parking at Seaview Place car park (along the road which runs alongside the foreshore and turn left at roundabout) EH51 0AP, Register Street car park (along the foreshore, behind The Post Office) EH51 9HA and Union Street car park (along the foreshore, opposite The Post Office).
Pushchairs, prams and buggies
Space on our trains is very limited so we offer a free buggy park* at Bo’ness Station where you can leave your pushchair, pram or buggy while you travel to Birkhill and back. Alternatively access to and from the event site is permitted throughout the day (please ensure you carry your Day Out With Thomas event ticket with you at all times) should you prefer to leave your pushchair, pram or buggy in your car. If you intend to get off the train and enjoy the activities and entertainment at Birkhill you will not have your pushchair, pram or buggy until you get back to Bo’ness. If you have any queries please see event staff on the day.
* PLEASE NOTE: Buggy Park is unsupervised and items are left at owner’s risk. SRPS accepts no liability for any loss of items on the day.
Do you have facilities for disabled visitors?
There is good disabled access to the station, the Station Buffet, the entertainment and the trains, and plenty of dedicated disabled parking. Disabled spaces are reserved at both stations, and Bo’ness Station has a disabled toilet. All trains are equipped with ramps for easy wheelchair access. Wheelchair users should call Quaytickets on 0843 208 0500 to book their tickets. Our disabled carriage is Carriage B.

“This hidden gem is only 40 minutes drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The staff are really friendly and looked after us as we boarded a beautiful steam train, we saw heritage diesels too. The sights, smells and sounds really took us back in time. After a browse around the excellent Museum of Scottish Railways and a bite to eat in the Station Buffet we all agreed we would recommend it to everyone and we would definitely be back.”
