2020 Dates

Thomas and friends will be at Bo’ness on 25 & 26 July and 5 & 6 September 2020. Tickets must be pre-booked online here.

Unfortunately he will not be here in May as planned.

If you have purchased tickets for our May Day Out With Thomas event, our ticket agents, Quaytickets will be sending you an email this week (w/c 16/3) to give you the opportunity to transfer your tickets to our July or September events.
It is also possible to get a refund and information on this will be in the email from Quaytickets.
We hope to see you later in the year and will be working hard in the meantime to plan a wonderful event for you all.

The event is open 9.30am-4.30pm and you can book a ticket for your steam train journey at any point during that time subject to availability. So even if your return train journey to Birkhill is in the afternoon you can join us much earlier to enjoy the fun. Download a programme here when available.

The fare for anyone age 2 or over is £15 (no booking fee) and must be pre-booked.

Under 2s are free but will not be entitled to a seat, please be aware that every seat in your coach could be sold out so we appreciate your co-operation with this.

All entertainment and rides are covered by your ticket! See programme here when available.

Please note; visitors cannot access the site at Bo’ness and Birkhill without a pre-booked Day Out With Thomas ticket on these dates, this includes the station platform, visitor trail, fairground rides, Station Buffet and other facilities which are part of the event.

This is a Premium Fare event which means discount vouchers including Tesco vouchers, complimentary tickets, Annual membership cards & vouchers and other discount passes are not valid.DOWT logo 2013

Will Thomas be there?

Yes, Thomas will pull your train to Birkhill and back.

Can I bring my dog? We regret that dogs (except Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs) are not permitted at this event.

Do I have to book in advance?
Yes, you can book your tickets online here

Under 2s are free but will not be entitled to a seat, please be aware that every seat in your coach could be sold out so we appreciate your co-operation with this.

I’ve pre-booked, when will I get my tickets?

Tickets will be sent to you within 5-7 working days of your booking being placed.

However tickets should always reach you at least 7 days before the event unless they are being collected from the railway. Where tickets are booked within 14 days of an event and are being posted, tickets should reach you at least 2 days before an event.

  • Enjoy a picnic at our dedicated picnic areas
  • Treat yourself to a meal in the Station Buffet – can get quite busy so please bear with us!
  • Take the time to explore Bo’ness’ historic buildings and unique shops

How do we get to you?
We are about 40 minutes drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow. See map here.

Car Parking

We have a large free car park but it does fill up quickly. If our car park is full you can find free parking at Seaview Place car park (along the road which runs alongside the foreshore and turn left at roundabout) EH51 0AP, Register Street car park (along the foreshore, behind The Post Office) EH51 9HA and Union Street car park (along the foreshore, opposite The Post Office).

Pushchairs, prams and buggies

Space on our trains is very limited so we offer a free buggy park* at Bo’ness Station where you can leave your pushchair, pram or buggy while you travel to Birkhill and back. Alternatively access to and from the event site is permitted throughout the day (please ensure you carry your Day Out With Thomas event ticket with you at all times) should you prefer to leave your pushchair, pram or buggy in your car. If you intend to get off the train and enjoy the activities and entertainment at Birkhill you will not have your pushchair, pram or buggy until you get back to Bo’ness. If you have any queries please see event staff on the day.

* PLEASE NOTE: Buggy Park is unsupervised and items are left at owner’s risk. SRPS accepts no liability for any loss of items on the day.

Do you have facilities for disabled visitors?
There is good disabled access to the station, the Station Buffet, the entertainment and the trains, and plenty of dedicated disabled parking. Disabled spaces are reserved at both stations, and Bo’ness Station has a disabled toilet. All trains are equipped with ramps for easy wheelchair access. Wheelchair users should call Quaytickets on 0843 208 0500 to book their tickets.  Our disabled carriage is Carriage B.

Is Thomas at your railway all the time?
We are open for much of the year (see here for our Prices & Timetables) and run a steam and diesel service. However we are pleased to say that 2020 dates for Day Out With Thomas are Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th July and Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September. At other times Thomas can be found being a really useful engine at other railways. You can find out where by visiting for games, videos, news and information about Thomas and his friends.
