Winter Diesel Gala 2018

Winter Diesel Gala – blow away the cobwebs and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of yesteryear!

Head to the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway between Christmas and New Year and enjoy our one day Winter Diesel Gala on Saturday 29 December from 09.30 to 17.00. Please click here for up to date information, including timetables, (when available) about this event which is organised and run by the SRPS Diesel Group.
Primarily aimed at diesel enthusiasts, but interesting to anyone who wants to re-live the sounds and smells of these great diesel engines of the Swinging Sixties which took us to work and for a day out at the seaside right up to the 1980s.
Motive power – This event will feature locos from our home fleet (27001, 37703 and 47643) with the Class 126 DMU making a welcome return on our 12.30 departure to Birkhill. We hope to be able to offer guest locomotives from other operators which are to be confirmed closer to the event.

Our Station Buffet at Bo’ness will be open for food and hot and cold drinks. There will also be an on train buffet serving snacks and bottle beers and other drinks.

New for 2018 – We are planning to offer visits to the SRPS Diesel Group Shed, see behind the scenes where we maintain and restore our fleet. The Diesel Shed can be reached on foot by following the signs, on the way there why not drop into the Norwegian Coaches where the Bo’Ness O Gauge Group are planning their own mini Diesel Gala, with DCC sound fitted locos in operation.

FREE Shuttle Bus from Linlithgow! We are delighted to announce that PreScoBus will be providing an hourly free Bus shuttle service from Linlithgow Station to the Diesel Gala, so why not jump on board for a ride on a 1986 Leyland Olympian (courtesy Allan Eley) or a Leyland Tiger (courtesy Angus Transport Group) between Bo’ness & Linlithgow Station. Timetable available here.

Don’t forget our Museum – Subject to weather conditions, our Museum of Scottish Railways will be open 11am until 3pm (last admission 2.30pm). Amongst the three large buildings of locomotives, carriages, wagons and other artefacts, you can see National Railway Museum‘s iconic electric loco class 84 001 which is on loan to us.

Special Note: Wheelchairs at our Winter Diesel Gala

Sadly our dedicated disabled coach does not have the electric train heating capability, so will be unavailable for the Winter Diesel Gala.
We can still accommodate wheelchair users but this will be in an area in one of our carriages which is usually used to carry luggage and therefore has a flat surface. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please note that whilst we endeavour to run to the published timetable, the SRPS reserve the right to change parts of the timetable at any point due to unforeseen circumstances.
