Winter Diesel Gala
Winter Diesel Gala 2019 – blow away the cobwebs and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of yesteryear! Updated 25th December 2019.
Head to the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway between Christmas and New Year and enjoy our one day Winter Diesel Gala on Saturday 28th December. Primarily aimed at diesel enthusiasts, but interesting to anyone who wants to re-live the sounds and smells of these great diesel engines of the Swinging Sixties which took us to work and for a day out at the seaside right up to the 1980s. Trains depart Bo’ness from 09:30; the full timetable can be found here.
Motive power – This event will feature locos from our home fleet (26038, 37703 and 47643 and the Class 126 DMU). We are indebted to our Colleagues at DRS who are very kindly sending us a Class 66 to add to our roster. Please check the latest timetable here.
With ample free parking on site it is easy to get to Bo’ness Station, for those coming by public transport please note there is no service from Edinburgh to Linlithgow, so our friends at PreScoBus have kindly arranged to have a bus at Edinburgh Waverley to leave at 08.20, there will be a return service to Waverley after the last Diesel Gala train returns to Bo’ness. In between times there will be a free bus shuttle service between Bo’ness and Linlithgow throughout the day.
We are offering Diesel Shed tours –please follow the access signs on the platform. Our friends in the Norwegian Coaches are operating an O Gauge DCC Sound DieselGala Day as well, so this is worth a visit!

Accessibility
Please click here to read about accessibility around our site. There is however a special note below about the carriages which will be used at our Winter Diesel Gala.
Special Note: Wheelchair access to carriages at our Winter Diesel Gala
Sadly our dedicated disabled coach does not have the electric train heating capability, so will be unavailable for the Winter Diesel Gala.
We can still accommodate wheelchair users but this will be in an area in one of our carriages which is usually used to carry luggage and therefore has a flat surface. Wheelchairs users who can collapse their chair down to get through the Buffet Coach door can then be accommodated back in their wheelchair inside the Buffet coach as we have flexible seating within this coach. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Travel in style! – Free shuttle bus from Linlithgow Station PLUS one off return shuttle bus service from Edinburgh Waverley
We’ve teamed up with our friends at Prescobus who are kindly offering a free shuttle bus service throughout the day Linlithgow-Bo’ness-Linlithgow – PLUS an extra bus shuttle service from Edinburgh Waverley to help with Edinburgh Glasgow ScotRail line closure and a return trip in the evening.

Dear Visitor
“This hidden gem is only 40 minutes drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The staff are really friendly and looked after us as we boarded a beautiful steam train, we saw heritage diesels too. The sights, smells and sounds really took us back in time. After a browse around the excellent Museum of Scottish Railways and a bite to eat in the Station Buffet we all agreed we would recommend it to everyone and we would definitely be back.”
