Free event – Scottish Railways during WWI Talk
On 2nd August at 18.30 in the Station Buffet at Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, Jim Summers will give an illustrated talk about Scottish Railways during World War One.
The talk will focus on the vital role that railways played during the war and the changes to railways that happened in Central Scotland during this time.
The talk will accompany the temporary exhibition, From Scotland to the Somme at the Museum of Scottish Railways and see the launch of a booklet about the research carried out for the exhibition.
Jim has spent 50 years in the railway industry, both here and abroad, and has a wide experience of railway operations. He was a founder of the Institution of Railway Operators and is the author of “Signalling the Caledonian Railway” and a number of articles on railway history.
Tea and coffee will be provided.

“This hidden gem is only 40 minutes drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The staff are really friendly and looked after us as we boarded a beautiful steam train, we saw heritage diesels too. The sights, smells and sounds really took us back in time. After a browse around the excellent Museum of Scottish Railways and a bite to eat in the Station Buffet we all agreed we would recommend it to everyone and we would definitely be back.”
