Autumn Steam Gala 2017 – steam, photos and fish & chips* UPDATED 29/9
We are gearing up for what is going to be an action-packed weekend of steam, photos and fish & chips* from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 October.
Steam Gala Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 October
Timetable: TIMETABLE NOW UPLOADED
Your Autumn Steam Gala timetables can be download here: Friday Saturday Sunday. They are subject to change due to operational needs so please keep checking this page for updates and follow us on Facebook and Twitter where information will also be posted.
A rare chance to travel in our vintage coaches:
There will be plenty going on all weekend with trains running all day Saturday and Sunday and evening trains on the Friday to relax and enjoy a real ale on the move. (Fish & Chips carriages are now SOLD OUT) We are using our Branch Set (5 coaches dating back to the 1950s), Teaks (2 LNER Thompson coaches, one a non-corridor compartment coach dating back to the 1940s) and our Caledonian Coaches (2 corridor compartment coaches dating back to the 1920s). All these historic carriages have been used recently for filming for TV and the cinema, uses include BBC’s Rillington Place and The Secret Agent, the 2017 forthcoming TV drama Agatha Christie’s Ordeal by Innocence and not forgetting Outlander.
Please note our Caledonian coaches have limited capacity so please enjoy the rest of our site whilst waiting for the next departure. You can visit the Museum of Scottish Railways or the Model Railway, have a snack or meal in the Station Buffet or treat yourself in the Gift Shop.
Unfortunately as these coaches are in their original state there is no wheelchair access or toilets on board. The journey time between facilities is approx 20 minutes. There is no wheelchair access on our teak coaches but there is an accessible coach on the Branch Set which will haul the majority of our trains over this weekend.

Visitors to the railway and museum this weekend will be able to take part in something really special thanks to our friends at the Furness Railway Trust. For the first time ever in Scotland people will be able to see and ride behind first Great Western Railway tank steam locomotive GWR 0-6-2T No. 5643.
Also out over the weekend will be our railway’s full home fleet of No’7, No’19, No’1 Lord Roberts and No’6 on station pilot duties. The Museum of Scottish Railways will be open as will the visitor trail around the site, plus there will be a real ale bar on board trains, home-cooked food in the Station Buffet and sales stands.
Event content is subject to change owing to operational requirements or weather conditions.
Photo Charter – Friday 20 October ONLY 5 SPACES REMAINING!
On Friday 20 October, there will be a photographer’s special using visiting steam locomotive GWR 0-6-2T No. 5643 which will feature at the head of both a mixed train and a freight train set during the day. This is a fantastic opportunity for photographers of any level. During the charter the participants will travel on the train to locations hand-picked by the organisers, themselves experienced photographers. As the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway is not open to passenger trains on that day, those on the charter will have the rare opportunity to access trackside locations which are not normally available to everyone. For more information on the day (which must be pre-booked), contact Andrew Fowler on firstname.lastname@example.org ONLY 5 SPACES REMAINING! (updated 21/9/17)

“This hidden gem is only 40 minutes drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The staff are really friendly and looked after us as we boarded a beautiful steam train, we saw heritage diesels too. The sights, smells and sounds really took us back in time. After a browse around the excellent Museum of Scottish Railways and a bite to eat in the Station Buffet we all agreed we would recommend it to everyone and we would definitely be back.”
